Here are five Ways to Be Prepared to Heal Yourself and Others. Healing will be much easier if we are prepared in advance with the skills we will need. After much study and Prayer I have felt to share the ways I think the Lord wants us to prepare to heal our families and friends when the time of tribulation comes.
- Priesthood Blessing by a worthy priesthood holder
- Faith healing by someone who has faith to add to the faith of the one to be healed.
- Herbal remedies.
- Proper growing and preparation of food.
- Alternative healing methods such as: Massage therapy, Foot zoning, Christ centered energy healing.
Priesthood Blessing by a Worthy Priesthood holder
This last conference President Russel M. Nelson Called priesthood holders to increase their priesthood power. He ask that they live worthy of using Christ’s priesthood power and instructed them in how to increase their power. Every priesthood holder and his wife should study this talk and pray to know what they need to do to increase their priesthood power.
I urgently plead with each one of us to live up to our privileges as bearers of the priesthood. In a coming day, only those men who have taken their priesthood seriously, by diligently seeking to be taught by the Lord Himself, will be able to bless, guide, protect, strengthen, and heal others. Only a man who has paid the price for priesthood power will be able to bring miracles to those he loves and keep his marriage and family safe, now and throughout eternity. President Nelson

I have been healed many times by the power of a priesthood blessings. My husband, son, and father are all holders of Christ’s priesthood. I know priesthood power works. It is a great blessing to me and my family.
President George Q. Cannon said:
“I have felt deeply impressed … that the members of our Church do not value as they should the means which God has placed within their reach for the relief and healing of the sick.
“There is too great a disposition, when sickness enters a household, to send for a doctor. …
“Instances are very common among the faithful Saints of the gift of healing being manifested in a very wonderful manner. …”
“Faith to heal the sick is one of the most desirable gifts of the gospel and should be sought after by all Melchizedek Priesthood holders. They should always be ready to exercise this power in behalf of those who need a blessing. They should seek to have and develop the gift of faith, faith to heal and faith to be healed. “
This was fall of 1974 not too long ago.
From a talk given by Elder Dallin H Oaks to a group of priesthood holders and young men preparing to recieve the priesthood.
“ We have this priesthood power, and we should all be prepared to use it properly. Current increases in natural disasters and financial challenges show that we will need this power even more in the future than in the past.
Many scriptures teach that the servants of the Lord“shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover”(Mark 16:18). Miracles happen when the authority of the priesthood is used to bless the sick. I have experienced these miracles. As a boy and as a man I have seen healings as mir
aculous as any recorded in the scriptures, and so have many of you.
There are five parts to the use of priesthood authority to bless the sick: (1) the anointing, (2) the sealing of the anointing, (3) faith, (4) the words of the blessing, and (5)the will of the Lord.

Faith Healing through Prayer
We can be healed by our faith and by the faith of those who love and minister unto us. A righteous mother can heal her children or spouse through faith as she prays over and blesses them. I believe that the righteous prayers of both Men and women can heal those they are caring for.
The Prophet Joseph Smith said, “Respecting females administering for the healing of the sick, . . . there could be no evil in it, if God gave his sanction by healing; that there could be no more sin in any female laying hands on and praying for the sick, than in wetting the face with water; it is no sin for anybody to administer that has faith, or if the sick have faith to be healed by their administration.” Such an administration would not be by virtue of the priesthood, but a manifestation of faith.
Joseph Smith, in the quote mentioned above, specifically mentions the promises given in Mark 16:18, which contains the promise that “they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” (and which is found also in Mormon 9:24) was a promise given to all believers “whether male or female.”
, D&C 46:20 says, ” And to others it is given to have faith to heal,” and Moroni 10:11 says, “. . . and to another, the gifts of healing by the same Spirit.” It seems illogical that this spiritual gift would not be given to women who have as much capacity for faith and therefore capacity to heal or be healed by faith, as men do.
President Smith says that “It must always be borne in mind that this administering to the sick by the sisters is in no sense a temple ordinance, and no one is allowed to use the words learned in the temple in washing and anointing the sick.” He also states that the blessings should not use the word “seal” but the word “confirm.”
I believe we can have the gift of healing by virtue of asking for the gift and by exercising our faith to heal and be healed. This leads to faithfully listening for the promptings of the Savior as we proceed with our gift of healing. He will direct us in just how to heal.
Elder Oaks suggested, the faith of those present is the key for activating the blessings.
God was so generous in giving us herbs of all varieties to help us heal ourselves. It doesn’t matter where you live, you can find herbs that can help you heal. The scriptures teach us to use herbs when necessary to heal the body.
D&C 42:43 And whosoever among you are sick, and have not faith to be healed, but believe, shall be nourished with all tenderness, with herbs and mild food, and that not by the hand of an enemy.
Alma 46:40 And there were some who died with fevers, which at some seasons of the year were very frequent in the land—but not so much so with fevers, because of the excellent qualities of the many plants and roots which God had prepared to remove the cause of diseases, to which men were subject by the nature of the climate—
I believe that God has prepared many plants and roots to remove the cause of disease. I believe that there are different plants in different climates, but in all areas of the world there is a plant or root that can help cure all diseases. These herbs can be prepared in a variety of ways: infusions or decoctions (both commonly know as herbal tea), salves, tinctures, soaked oils and essential oils.
Some of the herbs I have found growing on my property, they grow naturally and I did not plant them, are: yarrow( an excellent herb and good for many things, I will do a post about yarrow and its benefits later.), mullein, nettle, Oregon grape root, shave grass, hawthorn, elderberry, willow, burdock, shepherds purse, mallow, poplar, purslane, dandelion, chock cherry, and catnip.
I have also planted some herbs for use such as: echinacea, peppermint, chives, thyme, lemon balm, and basil. I plan to add additional plants this year.
Some additional sources of information are Beyond Wheat and Weeds this book is great to have in an emergency it is filled with healing information on many illnesses, it also has a great list of emergency supplies to have on hand. Another book I use often is The Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine this is a great list of herbs and their uses including the parts used and how to use them.
This is a link to a google doc that Machelle Littlefield put together that is great to make your own Herb binder.
Proper Growing and Preparation Of Food
The way we grow our food is also very important to our health. If we choose the seed carefully, looking for seeds that are not GM(Genetically modified) and select healthy seeds from a reputable source. (I get mine here) or here. We are counseled to grow a garden for our own use and to help others when possible. This is the info the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints puts out on basic gardening.
Planting a garden, even a small one, allows for a greater degree of self-reliance. With the right information and a little practice, individuals and entire families can enjoy the many benefits of planting and tending a garden.
The following information is provided to help you prepare your garden.
Planning a Garden
- Vegetables need at least six hours of sunlight a day.
- The garden site should be relatively level. If there is a steep slope, run rows of plants across it to prevent erosion.
- It is a good idea to spade (mix) the soil to a depth of 12 to 14 inches. Adding organic matter such as manure, peat moss, or leaves will benefit the soil.
- Be careful with fertilizer. All fertilizers have a three-digit code. For vegetable gardens, look for 8-8-8 or 16-16-16.
- The simplest way to eliminate plant pests is to remove insects, worms, or eggs by hand. Some shake-on powder or liquid bug sprays are relatively safe to use.
- Proper depth for planting seeds is approximately four times as deep as the seed is thick.
Gardening in Containers
Once the garden is planted and you have tended it, you will be able to harvest and preserve your crop. By growing your own food you have healthier options available for your family to eat. You can use non GMO seeds, use compost instead of chemical fertilizers, and avoid pesticides and herbicides if you so choose, all of which increase your ability to keep it healthy. When we process our own foods instead of buying from corporations through grocery stores, we are able to control the ingredients in the finished product. We grow and can vegetables and fruits from the garden and store carrots, apples, potatoes and beets in a cellar.
Processed sugar and white flour are not healthy for us. They can cause inflammation in the body and increase illness. In our home, we use natural sugars like honey, maple syrup and coconut palm sugar. We grind our own wheat and often use ancient grains like spelt, kamut or eikorn. These have not been changed over time and are more natural as in closer to the way god created them.
We also feel it is important to raise our own meats on pasture or get it from a local farmer rather than the grocery store. This way we know and understand how they are raised, what they are fed, how they are cared for, and what antibiotics or steroids (if any) they have been treated with. Raising chickens, turkeys and geese and process them for the freezer has been a great family project. Our grass fed beef, we take to a local butcher we know and trust for processing. We have purchased the book Butchering Beef to instruct us if we ever have to process it ourselves.
Having chickens, and ducks for eggs, and a jersey cow for milk has helped us to become more self reliant, and has greatly expanded our ability to make a wide variety of basic food products such as: butter, cheese, sour cream, custard, yogurt and ice cream. Making our own food products gives us security in our food. We know how it is raised, how it is fed, how it is treated, and we can avoid unhealthy additives such as: msg, mono and diglicerites, & bpa ;and all other ingredients that are commonly used in processed food. These ingredients are often used only to make the food more stable for shipping and longer shelf life, or to allow the processor to make more money by using cheaper ingredients as fillers. Raising our own milk also gives us the option to use raw milk, avoiding homogenization and pasteurization if we choose to do so.
There is much more to be said about how to eat in order to insure good health. I will have to share additional secrets in future posts.
Alternative Healing Methods Such as: Massage therapy, Foot zoning, Christ Centered Energy Healing
I have routinely gone to a massage therapist to help me when i struggle with aches and pains or numbness in my arms. Having gone to several different therapists I recognize that they each have different training. There are several modalities in which they study: nerve therapy, lymphatic drain, deep tissue therapy, and many more. I find if I go to my friend who does massage therapy I am healed from the aches I have more quickly. I also know that before each visit she prays to know what she needs to do for me. My daughter went to her for help during her pregnancy. My son has seen her for help after a strenuous break dancing session. I am grateful to go to a health care practitioner who prays for the Fathers guidance before each appointment.
I have another friend who does foot zoning. She works on the feet much like a massage therapist works on the body. there are zones on the feet that correspond to parts of the body. Foot zoning can help heal the body in a similar way. My Stake Relief Society President recently told me that she felt impressed to take classes in foot zoning. She has worked in another field for several years but followed the prompting and learned to foot zone. These friends of mine also pray about each patient they see before performing a foot zone.
My foot zone friend also does energy healing. I know she prays about what each person she works on needs her to do, including what method of healing she should use at each appointment. In my mind this is very similar to Faith Healing and can only be successfully done through faith in Jesus Christ. I believe that those who have learned the art of energy healing and are centered in Christ can be a blessing to those who have the faith to be healed. I am new to learning about this work and feel that is should only be used if you have complete trust in the person who is performing the work and that the person is centered in Christ. All healing comes from Christ so we have to be careful who we learn from and who we have do this work for us. We should always pray to know if it is Gods will for us to receive work from the practitioner that we have chosen. Energy is all around us, both good energy from the light of Christ and bad energy from the devil. We must always look for the energy from Christ. He can fill our hearts with light and we can access information from him if we will tune into our inner spirit or listen to the holy ghost.
